Batman: Arkham Origins is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by WB Games Montréal and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Based on the DC Comics superhero Batman, it is the continuation of the 2011 video game Batman: Arkham City and is the third main installment in the Batman: Arkham series.

Written by Corey May, Ryan Galletta, and Dooma Wendschuh, the game's main story takes place eight years before 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum and follows a younger, less refined Batman. When he is bestowed upon a bounty by the crime lord Black Mask, luring eight of the world's greatest killers to Gotham City on Christmas Eve, Batman must bring Black Mask to justice, while also being hunted by the police and facing off other villains, like the Joker and Anarky, who take advantage of the chaos to launch their own nefarious plans.
Arkham Origins is an open-world action-adventure game that incorporates stealth play tactics. Batman can use his cape to glide around Gotham City and thus the retractable rope from the grapple gun connects to hard-to-reach ledges and extends his flight. Some gadgets from previous Arkham games are present at the beginning of Arkham Origins, while others are available during gameplay. Returning devices include the cryptographic sequencer, which often hacks security consoles; the Batclaw, used to hook onto surfaces; the Batarang,

a throwing weapon; the Remote Batarang, its remote-controlled counterpart; Explosive gel, which tends to destroy weak surfaces and knock down enemies; Smoke pellets, used for stealth entrances and exits; the Disruptor, which can remotely disable explosive weapons and mines, and thus the Grapnel Accelerator, an older version of the Grapnel Boost. New equipment in Batman's arsenal include Remote Claw; this allows Batman to focus on two objects and put them together,

allowing him to throw enemies at each other or hit them with objects (tying two walled points creates a tightrope for Batman to cross) Shock Gloves, which allow Batman to contain electrical attacks, disable some enemies and stun armor, and short-circuit objects, and thus the concussion detonator, capable of stunning large enemy groups.

The game features a fast travel system, allowing Batman to remotely summon his plane (the Batwing) to move him to other areas of the game world faster than they could plan or grab. Enemy tower facilities prevent Batman from summoning the ship in some areas, and must be disabled to form the available Batwing (not player controlled). Some towers can also be disabled only the player has the necessary equipment.

Players can traverse enemy-controlled areas using stealth or combat. Using an improved version of the series' Freeflow combat system, Combat introduces a tracking system that assesses player efficiency and highlights battle achievements (such as avoiding damage and using gadgets). By chaining attacks to guard momentum, performance is rewarded with experience points. These points are often used in a branched upgrade system to bolster Batman's abilities and gadgets, allowing players to upgrade multiple paths or focus on one.

Enemy attacks appear with a warning icon, indicating that they are often countered. Enemies are armed with weapons such as knives, lead pipes, and shields. The game introduces new enemy types: the Martial Artist (capable of blocking, evading and countering Batman's attacks), the Armored Enforcer (invulnerable until stunned and unarmed), and Poison-infused minions (who possess superhuman strength, allowing them to grab Batman and launch attacks that cannot be countered). Some enemies are armed with weapons, which can damage Batman, and a player can use stealth predatory tactics to tilt the odds in his favor. Many areas feature stone gargoyles or tall outcrops, helping Batman stay hidden while he sets traps and knocks out enemies.

Arkham Origins offers side missions, including Crime in Progress (where Batman can help the local Gotham City department (GCPD) by rescuing cops from a gang or preventing an informant from being thrown to their deaths). favorite allows Batman to chase villains out of most of history (like Anarky, who places bombs in the city). The Dark Knight system offers tasks of increasing difficulty that improve stealth and combat.

Batman's radio scanner also allows him to locate side missions; Completed missions are rewarded with experience points and upgrades to Batman's gear. The game features collectibles and puzzles almost like Riddler's challenges from previous games (orchestrated by Enigma before assuming the Riddler identity of him). Collectibles appear, almost like those from previous games. A "1 vs 100" mode within the game's challenge maps challenges the player to survive in combat against 100 increasingly difficult enemies.
